Indonesia merupakan negara bahari dan lebih dari 70% luas wilayah Indonesa merupakan lautan. Sumberdaya laut Indonesia sangat lah besar, terutama ikan laut. Untuk itu pemanfaatannya memerlukan pengelolaan yang berkelanjutan dalam jangka panjang dan berkesinambungan. Dalam menjaga keberlanjutan usaha pengelolaan sumberdaya ikan, dilakukan budidaya keramba jaring apung di lepas pantai Pangandaran oleh Direktorat Jendral Perikanan Budidaya, Kementrian Kelautan dan Perikanan (KKP). Teknologi yang modern dari keramba jarring apung offshore ini baru pertama diterapkan di Indonesia. Untuk itu diperlukan sumber daya insani yang memiliki kemampuan dalam pengoperasian dan pengelolaan keramba tersebut.
Dalam mengembangkan ilmu pengetahuan di bidang oseanografi dan meningkatkan kompetensi bidang khususnya, maka mahasiswa S2 Program Studi Sains Kebumian (PS-SB) ITB opsi oseanografi melakukan simulasi model ekosistem di keramba jaring apung offshore ini. Untuk meningkatkan keakurasian hasil model, maka diperlukan data pengamatan yang memadai. Oleh karena itu mahasiswa perlu mengetahui dan mengenal cara pengambilan data di lapangan dan peralatan yang digunakan keramba jaring apung offshore tersebut.
Salah satu mahasiswa S3 Program Studi Sains Kebumian (PS-SB) ITB opsi oseanografi melakukan penelitian mengenai marine plastic debris. Untuk itu akan dilakukan survei mikroplastik di keramba jaring apung offshore ini. Mahasiswa perlu mengetahui dan mengenal cara pengambilan data di lapangan dan analisis lokasi keramba jaring apung offshore tersebut.
Lokasi keramba yang telah siap dikunjungi dan beroperasi adalah Keramba Jaring Apung Offshore yang berjarak kurang lebih 8 mil dari Pantai Pangandaran. Kegiatan kunjungan dilakukan pada tanggal 22-25 Mei 2018.
Tujuan dari kegiatan ini, antara lain :
- Memberikan pengenalan dan pengalaman bagi mahasiswa S2-S3 Sains Kebumian dalam melakukan kegiatan di Keramba Jaring Apung Offshore
- Pengambilan data sample air dan analisis mikroplastik dari perairan Offshore Samudra Hindia.
- Pengambilan dan survei sampah plastik di Pantai Pangandaran.
