One research scientist and three postdoc positions are open at KAUST as part of a new joint initiative between KAUST, MIT, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, and Plymouth Marine Laboratory aiming at developing advanced stochastic/ensemble regional and coastal data assimilation, short and seasonal forecasting, transport, and visualization capabilities for the Red Sea. The successful candidates will join an already stablished multidisciplinary group at KAUST working on ocean and atmospheric modeling, data assimilation and uncertainty quantification led by Professors Ibrahim Hoteit and Omar Knio. Strong interpersonal qualities from the candidates will be appreciated as he/she will be working in a highly collaborative environment and will be expected to spend a part of their time at the collaborating institutions.

Qualified applicants should possess a Ph.D. in Oceanography, Meteorology, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field. Background and expertise in one or more of these following areas will be considered when selecting the candidates: Ocean Modeling, Coastal Ocean, Data assimilation, Large-Scale Uncertainty quantification, Ocean Forecasting, Seasonal Forecasting, Transport Phenomena, Large-Scale Visualization, and High Performance Computing. Applicants should be able to work in a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment involving extensive codes developments and real data with a minimal amount of supervision. Experience in using supercomputers under Linux and parallel coding environments is a must. The successful candidates will closely work with the KAUST high performance computing and visualization core labs equipped with a Cray supercomputer (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaheen_(supercomputer)) and sophisticated visualization facilities (https://kvl.kaust.edu.sa/Pages/Facilities.aspx).

The initial appointment period is for two years with a competitive salary based on the candidate’s qualifications (no income tax paid to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia).
